“Il Temporale” that I have translated as “The Storm”, was written by Pascoli in 1894, it is very similar to “The Lightning” for its atmosphere and sounds. That’s why I wanted to translate them into a sort of twin poems, reproducing the sounds of the words leaving behind the metrical structure.
“The Storm” is another masterpiece of Pascoli which does not need long explanations but a calm and relaxed reading. Everyone should enjoy the greatness of Nature which is represented in its lines.
A bubbling sound from far away…
Bleeding is the horizon,
As burning, by the sea;
Black as pitch looks by the land,
Tattered bright clouds:
Through the dark a country house:
A seagull wing.
